6th Grade Band
Beginning Band is the starting place for students in their musical journey! This is for students with no prior experience on an instrument. The class is open to students in 6th grade. Band meets during the school day, not after school.
In 6th Grade Beginning Band, you'll dive into the fundamentals of playing your chosen instrument, whether it be a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument. No prior musical experience is required – we welcome beginners with open arms! Beginning Band will ultimately create a greater understanding and love of music.

What is band?
Band is an elective class that meets during the school day. Students learn about the components of music and how to play an instrument.
How expensive is band?
Outside of the student acquiring their instrument, band has a one-time class fee of $40.
What instruments do you play in band?
Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Tuba, and Percussion!
Can you do sports (or other activities) and also do band?
Yes - band meets during the school day. We have lots of athletes and students involved in other activities.
What do you learn in band?
Time Management, Organization, Leadership Skills, Patience, Conflict Resolution, Determination, Perserverance, Critical Thinking, Humanity, and Fine Motor Skills. We also go on lots of fun trips and do lots of fun performances!
How do students get instruments?
Renting through The Music Stop is how most students get instruments to play in class. We have a limited number of school-owned instruments we can loan out to students. Nashville New and Used Music, Music and Arts, and McKay's are good places to purchase used instruments at fair prices.
How do students know what they are going to play?
Students go through an instrument exploration trying out all of the instruments to see what they will be most successful at. If a student played an instrument prior to 6th Grade Band, that is seriously considered.
